Why didn't German Fernandez run this?

What happened to Jerry's kids? I thought those guys were putting a team together. What happened to the Aussies? I thought they were going to have a team there.

Does anyone else feel like Wheating only kicks in the last 200-150? Am I just imagining this or could he run so much faster?

I think Wisconsin men could run faster than 16:03. With finnerty,bolas,miller,shields, and other top guys they recruited this year. I believe if they tryed they can beat 16:03.

Well Puskedra may be their second best guy but he is not their second best miler.

Plus a healthy Noble... plus a German freshman Angela Kesselring next year, who has run 4:23 and 2:04. Oregon might even be able to get the 4x800!

Probably not. Conference, Regionals, and Nationals are coming up. Then some pro races for the top guys.

The 4x1500m world record is 14:38.8 by West Germany in 1977. I don't think that a sub 20 4xmile would put you close to that

Even more cool is that the University of Oregon might get the chance to break Michigan's 4x1500 record next year... meaning Oregon beats Michigan once again. Zoe Buckman ran a 4:15 yesterday and Nicole Blood has a 4:14 PR. They have Kosinski as well, and they also get the addition of Hasay next year... meaning that they have a good shot at the record (17:15)...

Me and my friends ran a sub-20 4 by mile back in the day for fun. I don't think we were that far off the world 4 by 1500 record.

Well done video - nice audio capture too. Great run by the guys. Wonder what it might have been with a bit of competition. I was there - it seemed like a time trial.

They were going to run Scott Wall (Acosta is redshirting), but he tweaked his calf or something like that. So they decided to go with a more sure thing in Biwott and the collegiate record rather than risking it with someone else for the American record + collegiate record. My guess is they also thought OTC had a shot and the AR and wanted to let them go for it even though they were glorified rabbits. Still, just shows how much tougher it can be to time trial rather than get pulled along in a race.

world record for the 4 x 1500 meter relay is 14:38.8 which is an average of about 3:40 per 1500. I think this is well within this team's reach.

They could have had the American record too if they had run someone like Acosta instead of Biwott. Why would they run Biwott if he ran a workout earlier in the day? That makes no sense. Also, doesn't it seem like Wheating needs to be taught how to run a time trial? He had way too much left at the end and was clearly just biding his time behind Pifer. Nontheless, good job to all.

Also, two questions about Andrew Wheating. 1. Is he the tallest, 6 feet 5 inches, sub-4 miler? 2. Is he the first sub-4 miler born in Vermont? I'm sure there's a trivia guru out there who knows this.

Coach Vin well knows what Andy can do in his final kick. He was at the 200 to go mark (blue jeans & jacket), and it was like he pulled the trigger on the Andy gun.

Anyone know what the world "junior" record is?

Hayward Field was the scene of a new collegiate record tonight, Saturday, May 9, as Coach Vin cut his best milers loose to run a 4 x Mile Relay. The U. of Michigan held the record until tonight, 16:04.54 set in 2005. Many of the 5,725 fans attending the meet were allowed onto the infield for the race. You know how crazy those Oregon fans can get for something like this. So here's the team: Matt Centrowitz (3:36 1500 a week ago), Andrew Wheating, Shadrack Biwott, & Galen Rupp. The new collegiate record is 16:03.24. Oregon also ran Kosinski in the 800 (2:08), Buckman & Blood in the 1500 (4:15, 4:17), speed work for the PAC-10's coming up next weekend. I can't wait!
