The Mt.SAC course has changed many times in the last 60 years. The high school course changed from 2 miles to 3 miles (boys only) in 1977. The 3 mile course was then shortened to 2.91 in 1999.

Thanks for letting us see the races, it's a great over view of how hard the course is. We have enjoyed watching our grandson's race 82 many times.

John Lawson's Ascent, Billy Mills Ascent...they don't call an ascent for nothing.

my favorite part is the heavy breathing by the camera man.

Katie isn't correct. Its not a strength runners course. Natural speed guys (track guys as she said), do very well here, precisely because there is so much downhill. Michael Stember made up 80-100 meters on the final downhill to win the team sweeps race back in the 90's. Good natural leg speed wins over slower strength ginders on this course most of the time.

That was my league course and we did it at least 3 times a year (league finals, mt.sac invite, CIF-prelims, sometimes a league dual meet, always hoping to run CIF-finals there too, then they moved Footlocker there too.) Poop-out hill is just before mile 2. The switchbacks (also called goat hill) are first, then poop-out, then reservoir. They say that the course has remained the same, but they flattened out the path in the valley loop and chopped off one of the corners, it used to have a hair pinned turn around a big man-hole cover of some sort that it now goes to the inside of (Mark you can see it if you want, it is the first turn at the end of the air strip).

Anyway, to all those out in California, it is an awesome experience!

You can't wear spikes on the course because it is against the rules of CIF to wear spikes in cross-country.
