I Agree With 'are You Serious' March 24, 2008 at 6:16am
and Nikki.. no one should be trying to downplay a performance.. if you can do better, fine, but you probably know how much work it takes and can respect it
as for the scalping - why does everyone have to be so hypersensitive? hypersensitivity is one thing... but being hypersensitive when it wasn't even in context is another entirely.
dre, apparently you didn't watch the whole film, at 9:10 the commentator was talking about "scalp" terminology used as "getting ahead in the race" or what ever you feel like describing it....your use and historical background wasn't needed.
Rob Jackson, your comment about "Indian" blood and scalping was offensive, taking one's scalp should not be racialized, our sad American history has shown that scalping was done to many of the different ethnic groups to each other. As someone who does have Native American blood, please do not associate an extremely ethnically diverse group of people with a violent act from the past, that not all Native Americans took part in, and some Anglos were paid for Native American scalps, very sensitive subject, think before you write, please. Thank you
thank you, thank you!!!! Running fans in the states just don't get to view very much running coverage, and thanks to your site we are able to see races we normally would not be able, I love it!
Great North is technically a down hill race. In reality its a bloody hard course with ups and downs. There is a sharp drop onto the seafront just before 12 miles. That is what gives it its downhill status, but trust me that downhill doesnt help anyone! Its a very sharp drop over a very short distance and the braking forces beat up your quads massively. I'm not saying GNR should count for record purposes as rules are rules, but any performance on this course should be taken literally, not in the context of 'o it was good but its downhill.' Times would be identical or slightly faster if the sharp downhill at the end wasn't included.
Kara, i am confinced you are within reach of the American and World Record. The course was downhill this time, so the record did not count. I remember you saying in an interview that you often question yourself during a race. Well, I give you permission to never question yourself again. You're da woman and you should go into races expecting a win because you're more than capable. If you'll just get yourself in position during a race and hang with the leaders, you'll be fine in the end because you're in shape. Go girl!!!!
I'm not sure Kara does'nt have some indian in her blood somewhere, because indeed she did take a big scalp in that race making her a serious threat on the roads in the near future. What can she run the marathon in.My God what a superb performance.Kara you are the man.excuse me woman.
Brilliant run for both Kara and Paula. As a Brit Kara did Paula a real favour , dragged her to a super time and left her in no doubt as to her current max. Is this an American record for Kara? Well done on great victory. JK
