Pat Dupont ran for Fairport Senior High School in Upstate New York. As a senior he won state titles in the 3,200m, 3,000m Steeplechase and in cross country. He also qualified for the Foot Locker National Championships, where he placed 17th. As a freshman at Syracuse, Dupont qualified for the World Junior Cross Country Championships. In his sophomore year he led the Orange to a Big East Cross Country title and at the Northeast Regional, where the team qualified for th national meet for the first time since 1974.
