Miles Unterreiner   February 20 at 3:42pm
Hey Everybody,

This is the ACTUAL Miles Unterreiner speaking. Just to be clear - that was NOT me who posted the comment about Jordan being an "idiot" for choosing Oregon. I think that as an outstanding track-and-field and cross-country athlete (and a great all-around person whom I have had the opportunity to talk with several times), Jordan will excel at Oregon both academically and athletically. I congratulate and wish nothing but the best of luck to her.
Just as a side note, to whoever is going around impersonating me on public chat forums like this one - it's really not funny, and I don't particularly appreciate it. I don't know if you're deliberately attempting to make me look like a jerk or if you're just trying to be funny and failing miserably, but either way, please don't do it again. I'd appreciate it if, whoever you are, you'd own up and tell everyone your real name, but I don't really expect you to have the guts to do it.
To everyone: Please be aware that if you ever see mean or vicious comments posted in my name anywhere, about anyone, at any time, I personally have nothing to do with it. I don't usually post on either Dyestat or FloTrack, but I heard someone was posting slanderous comments in my name and felt like I needed to clear things up, both to preserve my own honor and the honor of my team and my school.
Thanks very much,
Miles

yeah umm miles unterreiner actually got recruited to stanford after winning 4A state in washington for cross country, and 3200 and 1600. However that comment about excelling is a very stuck up thing to say, someone could excel just as much at oregon depending on how she learns.

Just from a coaching standpoint I think any coach would love to work with her. But she's so smart and has been so well-coached thus far I can't help but feel this would be a real challenge to even Coach Vin. There have been a lot of great runners that have come and gone with him throughout his career. This magic combination of runner/coach was my personal choice well over a year ago. I'm just going to sit back and watch the master work (both of them!).

ummm pre is the best american runner ever? man i thought oregon had grown out of that stage. by todays standards.. pre sucked. and he would not even be on a top ten list of american distance running. turns out you are the moron who needs to stop posting.

Those morons need to stop posting such stupid stuff, it does no good. It is up to her and her parents to decide based on all factors, not just athletics. It might have helped that at the trails after she ran an americian hs record all of us in the crowd chantd "come to oregon", it was amazing. Plus Oregon is the meca of americian track, the home of the best americian runner ever, PRE. The entire state loves Hasay, and we cant wait to see what she will do here

She is such a lovable person. I am stoked about her decision not only because i LOVE oregon, but because she thought it through thoroughly and looked at her options and made what she thinks is the right choice for her. as long as she is confident in her choice i think she'd be amazing no matter where she went.

Even if she can't train any harder or add any miles to her training she is still going to be one of the greatest high school and college runners of all time. I have to say fast girl runners are getting better looking every generation, starting with the fine Mrs. Goucher!!!!!

Just so everyone knows, Jordan probably won't even be reading these posts, so all of the negativity really has no point. Can you even imagine how much pressure she was under while making her decision? If she feels like she can excel at OU, then that is great. She is a rare talent, and I think she would have done great anywhere.
agreed, I'm not much of an oregon or lananna fan but she'll do great wherever she goes and eugene is a great running town especially when you look at all the resources beyond college that are there

I think she made a great choice. Knowing that she has been a lone runner at her school and going to Oregon will put her around great talent as well as a great program. If anything its good that she didnt choose UW because she can still have that rivalry with Bab to push her in races, Staford is good too but i think UW and Oregon are the two top dogs right now fighting it hard for titles. Jordon would be a major individual talent focus at Oregon while at UW it would be alot of team and some specialized individual workouts.

I really feel like this was a poor choice if Jordan wants to actually ENJOY her college running career. Oregon may be good, but the women on that team do not have the same charisma that the UW women have. Metcalf talks a lot about a "synergy" that his team has, and that is what is going to make someone a better runner, not a bogus relationship with a bunch of decently fast girls who only care about themselves. Then again, i suppose this proves that Jordan Hasay isn't as well rounded as everyone thinks.

Why not stay in town, here at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo? Just kidding.

I think that she has made a great decision considering who she is, what she want's to do in life and what she's good at. If it were me I would go to Stanford but again I don't have the future in running that she has. Running wise Oregon is the best long term choice.

Good luck and have fun Jordan!

Wait, did she say that she was going to run in the senior/open race at USATF outdoors?

You guys, WHO CARES where she goes!?!?! That's her choice and thats what makes HER happy. She could care less what any of us thinks. By the way, UO has outstanding academics, nothing like Stanford of course, but comparing it to "University of Phoenix" is just plain ridiculous. She could have gone ANYWHERE she wanted to, but the truth of the matter is that she wanted a place where it would best prepare her in the long term, and I believe Vin and Eugene makes sense. Good for you Jordan, and best of luck!

came across this and read a couple of the comments and wow some people are really upset - the biggest point was what she referred to as a side benefit of having the trials in Eugene - sounds like a smart decision.

as for those that are being negative - I am sorry that you have to use this blog to let us know how you feel - enjoy Oregon and I will see you at the Pre Classic and the trials

Why are you all so fixated on the "name"? You can go to an Ivy League and learn nothing as well as go to like CSU Long Beach and learn a lot. Jordan gets great grades and is focused on academics, and Oregon has an excellent physiology program (which she mentions). There's more to life than going to a "name" school. Obviously she was going to be the happiest at Oregon and loved it there, and props to her for making a mature decision. Good luck at Oregon Jordan!

P.S. Hasn't she hinted before that she might go pro after 2 years? Oregon would have all the connections there for her.

The anti-Oregon sentiment is interesting. Lots of opinion, but no facts. "Go Dawgs" statement about "a bunch of decently fast girls" must have a different viewpoint of what fast is. Seems like the UO women were faster than all but the Dawgs at NCAA XC.

All in all it will make watching XC next year even more exciting. UW's dynasty get's challenged a bit. Who isn't going to enjoy Kendra and Jordan battling it out. Susan Kuijken, Kendra Schaaf, and Jordan Hasay in the XC nationals. That's a whole lotta blonde!

Oregon is a fantastic school, has a tremendous running legacy, and Eugene is an extremely supportive running community. Jordan will do well there and the Duck fans will welcome her. People need to lay off the negativity and support the girl- this was obviously a hard decision and she handled it very maturely.

But she LOVED her Oregon visit and that's what made the decision.

Good luck at Oregon. Both Oregon and Washington are great choices for such a talented runner. 'Tell ya what' has it all wrong about Metcalf however. He has developed good, talented runners, as well as local runners to All-American status. He takes a long term view with his athletes just like Vin does in Oregon. We are blessed to have two great programs here in the Northwest. Will be a fun match-up next Fall to see UO and UW!

Runners that go to u-dub generally do not improve. They just recruit really well and thats why their teams are good. Seeing as Jordan probably wants to get faster in college, u-dub would have been a dumb choice. Plus who wouldn't run for Oregon if they could??? its a no brainer.

Tell Ya What   February 3 at 8:43pm
Many people might have mixed feeling about this but part of the reason she didn't sign with UW is because Metcalf has a iffy reputation in the running community about "wearing" his athletes down. I personally disagree with this but I hear this A LOT!! Vin on the other hand, has a great resume and I think Jordan has made an awesome decision. But I just wonder how much of the "lack of" experience on Metcalf's part has to do with Jordan's decision. I think if Mel, Kendra, or Christine do well post-collegiately, then that will change that image Metcalf has in people's eyes, hopefully much sooner. Anyway, thats my thoughts. Good luck to you Jordan.
