I love this kid, I think he is loads of talent. Good for the NAU coach, he's really developed him and he did it quick. Estrada is an example of the good work they do at NAU. They don't get the top recruits in the nation like Oregon,Stanford, and even OSU, but they develop what they get and challenge for spots on the podium at the national meets. Look at what they did with Lopez Lamong. Congrats NAU for the program they have up there in flagstaff!

That NAU coach is a genius for recruiting Estrada. In high school he was a top ten among California's elite at best but the coach obviously saw the potential. If he's really smart he'll keep an eye on Jose Lezama, another California kid who is in JC right now. He ran about as fast as Estrada did in high school off of sporadic training.

I want to know why Vail and Fernandez did not run their home meet. As a long time coach, I would have run them unless there was a good reason not to let them run. There are only so many chances in life. I doubt that they would have become burned out, a worry that I've heard said about that. They are not going to PRE NATS, according to what I heard on this site. I really like watching Colby Lowe improve.

someone explain the stairs to me. why are those on the course? Does it take you over some big pipe or something, or is it just to make the course interesting, akin to adding hay bales?

"Wow, Adams State looks great."
yes i thought so too but i was surprised Reuben Chebon Mwei only managed to come 18th. I had predicted him for the win after his early season results. Maybe he was injured or something, i wonder what happened? Also what happened to Chirchir of OSU?

(Flustered Coach 8 minutes ago.
Wow Smith was trying to tell them how to run their races. All that pressure to do things his way right before they run is a psych out job for the runners. He needs to chill out and shut up. I hope he doesn't act the same way in practices. It looks to me that Smith doesn't have any clue about coaching.)

OSU NOW HAS A NEW COACH NAMED FLUSTERED COACH. GERMAN... RYAN...COLBY... PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS NEW COACH. HAS A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT REAL COACHING IS. HEY COACH, WHEN SHOULD WE START DOING INTERVALS?

I agree with Coach Smith's decision to hold German and Vail out of the race. The season is too long for him to have is guns running really hard this soon especially if they want to run at USA's and IAAF's Worlds. A person only has so many 8k and 10ks in them to begin with.

It does suck to get beat by a D-II school at your home meet. with that said if Both German and Vail ran, it would have still been close if Mcneil ran also. Both would have had closer to 30 points... But we don't do *IF
reality is NAU got a nice big trophy. OSU didn't.

hrm.. I do wish they would run to please me..but either way thats not my point, I was pointing out the absurdity of Coach Smith to be under the assumption that he will have an undefeated season if German and Vail aren't running in the race..in all fairness to him, I'm sure he just siad that to hype his runners up, who knows. But your right in a way.. my vandeta I guess is a personal objection to with holding German from racing. But still my points are valid..I believe they should have won their home meet, in both for a reassurance that they belong as the number 2 team in the nation and to give a just show for the many people that support them, just like their main rival, Oregon, who btw won Pre's Trail Run, their "home" meet, both Men and Women.

i'd go out on a limb and say they dont run to please you. ulrey, kuijken, wheating, mcneill among others haven't raced yet either. are they and their coaches in the wrong also? and how is anyone being let down? have you heard of an off day, that happens...people are human. i guess oregon, notre dame, and wisconsin are also failures in your eyes for not winning their home meets.

why dont we just let the season play out and let these guys do what they do.

Anyone else find humor in the fact that Oklahoma's coach really sounded like he thought the team was going to go undefeated this season, regardless of the fact that both vail and fernandez were absent from the race, which is so incredibly annoying in its own right.. I really due.. understand that all the "big timers" in d1 xc want to be fresh for nationals, and post season races, which I don't agree with, but I'll save my breath for that argument. What I don't agree on is letting down the Oklahoma fans and family that drove out there expecting to see Oklahoma take the crown to there OWN race. I mean not only could they not win the race, they couldn't even manage get in the top 3. First we miss out on the match up of Rupp/fernandez in indoor nationals, and now this, though smaller and less important, is still another addition to the list of races we will see fernandez not compete in, due to Dave Smith's ingenious coaching! and please don't tell me it is fernandez who doesnt want to run these races..fernandez is a competitor, he will run anytime anywhere.

judging by what Dave Smith said in his prerace huddle, he can't be pleased with a 3rd place finish. they will NOT go undefeated now. However, with Vail and German and Girma running where he should they will be hard to touch.

Incredible shot at the beginning with cart alongside the runners.

Also, coverage of this was about 300 times better than Paul Short coverage. Actually had an idea of who was in it and how it played out.
