You win as a team and you lose as a team. I will be the first to say I am a pretty big Chris Derrick fan but at the same time, saying things like "I don't really want to talk about this race ever again" is pretty immature. I know its shortly after he found out the news but at the same time when you are one of the nations best and a leader on multiple fronts, you have to keep your composure, which he didn't very well. Like Khadevius Robinson said in his last interview, "We are defined by how we respond to when things don't go well." Disappointment is human but at the same time, I don't want to see Chris Derrick only smiles and giggles when he accomplishes the things he wants.

I just wanted to say that it appears that I was singling out Elliott and Benjo with my comments and I did not mean to do that. I was talking about them as examples of guys who gave it there all but for one reason or another didn't have it today. I think anyone who saw them, or anyone on the team, after the race knows that if they underperformed today it was not because of lack of effort. I am not angry at any of my teammates for how they ran or how we as a team performed. The responsibility lies on all of us collectively and no person in particular.

where we were watching from, the board showed 4:48/it was announced so something wasn't accurate. we didn't realize the race went out that fast.

During the race today I kept waiting for the Stanford pack to show up, I just thought they were racing smart and hanging back, but they never came. Derrick is an awesome athlete, his bluntness may sting a bit but it will pay off eventually. I loved how even after they knew they didn't run well, the Stanford runners waited in the shoot for all of their teammates to finish the race. That really left a great impression on me, even though they didn't run their best race. I'm excited to go back next year and cheer them on. Best of luck.

Come on guys...i know you ask for help but every time he does an interview with someone he doesn't know what to ask. he asks the wrong questions...

I know its easy to be an arm chair critic but please find someone who is more prepared...
There is no enthusiasm, no background knowledge, no emotion. ITS NOT FLOTRACK!
"As long as your still in school..."
"When i saw Sam come through at 4:50, i thought man he's going slow, did that kind of through you off..."

I enjoyed the interview and found it interesting. It tough to interview someone who is emotionally down but I thought the interviewer did a good job under the circumstances. Most interviews we see are celebrating victories, this just happened to be the opposite side of the spectrum. Someone who is down and does not want to talk about the teams lack of success at the meet. That is just part of sports, the ups and downs. Chris ran well and I am sure his team will come back strong next year. Thanks for the candid interview.

I'm usually really very annoyed with how unprofessional the flotrack interviewers are but I actually thought this guy was very good.

Feel bad for chris as he ran a great race and share his disbelief as to what happened with his teammates.

Probably should have sent Ryan to interview him. Not saying this guy did a bad job but might have been easier for someone who knew him a little better.

I thought the questions were good and tough considering the disappointment on the team side of things. I thought Derrick's answer were very honest and great.

Agree that the interviewer is a bit weak, that being said, it isn't easy to interview someone that is dissapointed over his performance. Seems like Stanford peaked at regionals.

Criticism is the only way there will be improvement. Feedback is a necessary tool for improved commentary. yes the guy did not have his facts straight. Next time if you are not 100% sure on details don't talk times. And give Chris a break he cared about how his team did and does not want to smack talk any of his teammates bad performances.

With respect, the guy interviewing is horrible. He is always interupting the people, and he talks way to much about stuff he doesn't know. He seems enthused about th sport, but just interview the guys. Good try, but time for a replacement.

Wow, he just seems PISSED at his team. He may not be, but it seems that way in the interview. Chin up Chris. You'll all be back next year and kick some butt.
