good run, but next time I could do without the swearing. Didn't your mom ever teach you good manners?

Oh I like the excitement! And I'd be screaming F@$#K YEA!!! I'M THE FASTEST F@%#ING AMERICAN JUNIOR EVER!!!! But thats just me.

I also like how Ryan said sh*t, seemingly just to make Derrick feel more comfortable about his own language.
Great interview!

The word 'fuc.k' isnt even a bad word, grow up people. It's in classic literature like The Catcher in the Rye, and used by everyone/

Quinn Chasan   May 4 at 4:21pm
Don't even worry a second about it. It made me laugh to see how excited you were. If anything we should take it as it was meant - to describe how you felt.

Cool interview! Glad to see Derrick doing so well!

Never realized it before, but he's a handsome lookin' fellow. Now that whole mono thing makes more sense.
Good luck with the rest of your season CD!

Bad apple. Does what he wants, on the track and out his mouth.

CD don't apologize, you swearing helped me realize that you are indeed human and it actually made me a bigger fan of you. I hope some day I get a flotrack interview after a good race so I can fvck sh!t up! If you're offended by it...grow up...

Robert Scribner   May 4 at 2:34pm
Chris Derrick, do not apologize for this. The people who take offense to this sort of thing are the type of people you shouldn't take seriously. Using the f-word in that context is pretty innocuous.

He has the right to say whatever he wants, but I think you're generalizing. Your statement isn't factual.

so you guys never cussed in college? After breaking a junior record?

excellent points ryan!!! caught up in the moment, this is the interview i'd expect most normal young athletes to give. in 5 years you will get just a sound bike from CD, which is cool, but for now we get to experience (and accept) him as he is.

as an athlete you never know when you're going to get the chance to break records. when it happens it should be a big deal. speaking in the moment with all the emotions that go with that, its understandable things could slip out accidentally. its great to see fire from athletes. too many people do great things without showing the emotion people want to see. its cool chris, you guys all put on a show for the fans and it was exciting. the fans witnessed some history last night!

That was probably my least favorite interview on this site.
I mean I gotta hand it to the guy for what he did it was absolutely amazing but he could be a little bit more humble with his interview. Cussing was what shocked me. You can get your message across without cussing.
I did want to apologize for the swearing. In the excitement after the race I kind of forgot that I was doing an interview for public consumption. My apologies.

I love hearing that the record was heavy on his mind. I love hearing that he wanted to beat German. I'm sick of the PC pandering 'oh i just wanted to run my best.' Screw that. You want to WIN, you want to SET RECORDS, you want to beat the best! Good job Derrick!!!!
And what a race that was. Exciting to the finish.
