#14	NickNack May 5 at 6:25pm These top guys are too good to be eliminated in a prelim. Certainly some of the guys around 13:40-50 won't make the final, but guys like German, CD, Mead and obviously Rupp are not gonna get outkicked for the final spot in a slow race. They're just too good. reply
#13	Mighty Porn Stache May 5 at 3:57pm It quite possibly could be the deepest 5000 field in years at NCAAs. I will be eagerly awaiting this race at nationals...sorry...nashies. The typical problem with the 5000 is that there is a prelim. And because one heat goes too slow or some bad strategic moves, someone who's dropped a huge time this year will get left out of the final. But then, we can't really have 40 guys line up for a one-shot final...can we? Wait, can we?! That would be awesome. reply

#11	Jdflash May 5 at 3:15pm Nice Fu Manchu and what a race, I do feel that German was undertrained coming off the Worlds x.c. he must of taken time off for his foot. I heard he only had two solid weeks after the worlds. It will be a fine NCAA meet-to see. reply

Tasty Race of the Week (May 4)

This week's tasty race comes from the 2009 Payton Jordan Cardinal Invite. Stanford's Chris Derrick and Oklahoma State's German Fernandez headlined the story with the talk of taking down the American Junior record. As the race unfolded Derrick made a strong move, German began to fade. The an unexpected Hassan Mead took the lead and never looked back. German started to come back but Mead, Derrick, and Jager were too strong. Jager moved past Derrick just before the line for second, but Derrick still held on for a new American Junior Record at 13:29. Mead's time is now the third fastest in the NCAA and Jager's 13:28 was a pretty nice debut. Bottom line, the US has some great young talent!! Good news for the years to come....

Bio:	In high school, Chris won the Nike Team Nationals individual crown, leading his team to victory. The following week he finished 2nd at the Foot Locker National Championships. The following week he finished 2nd at the Foot Locker National Championships. After the season, he received… + See More - See Less - In high school, Chris won the Nike Team Nationals individual crown, leading his team to victory. The following week he finished 2nd at the Foot Locker National Championships. After the season, he received the inaugural Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year Award. During track, Derrick recorded a time of 13:55 for 5,000m at the Arcadia Invitational. It was the fastest 5k in a high school only race in history. Mono soon after that ended his high school career early. In his first year at Stanford, Chris enjoyed one of the most successful years a true freshman distance runner has in NCAA history. He earned 4 All-American honors in 3 seasons, placing 7th at NCAA's in cross country, 4th and 5th in the indoor 5,000m and 3,000m, and 3rd in the outdoor 5,000m. During the winter he also qualified for the World Junior Cross Country Championships by placing 2nd at the US Junior Championships. At World Junior Cross, Chris finished a stellar 15th. In the spring he broke the American Junior 5,000m record by running 13:29.98.
