Chris DerrickTasty Race of the Week (May 4)May 5, 2009 This week's tasty race comes from the 2009 Payton Jordan Cardinal Invite. Stanford's Chris Derrick and Oklahoma State's German Fernandez headlined the story with the talk of taking down the American Junior record. As the race unfolded Derrick made a strong move, German began to fade. The an unexpected Hassan Mead took the lead and never looked back. German started to come back but Mead, Derrick, and Jager were too strong. Jager moved past Derrick just before the line for second, but Derrick still held on for a new American Junior Record at 13:29. Mead's time is now the third fastest in the NCAA and Jager's 13:28 was a pretty nice debut. Bottom line, the US has some great young talent!! Good news for the years to come....
