The mountains are part of the Pacific range...they are relatives of the Cascade range in Washington state.
Regarding snow: Down near sea level, like at the track, it hardly snows at all, just lots of rain in the winter. However those mountains that Kevin pointed out are high enough to get LOTS of snow, more than 20 feet every winter.
Kevin you are excused from the minor slip on the mountains... I was very impressed with your knowledge & enthusiasm for track and awed by how many coherent interviews you generated in such a short time.
