During Coach Hayes' three-year span at Northern Arizona, he coached three athletes to 9 All-American citations and 6 NCAA individual championship titles. His athletes also set 10 school records. He also guided Lopez Lomong to a 4th place finish in the 800m at 2006 Outdoor NCAA Championships. Before coaching at NAU Hayes was the women's Head cross country coach and Assistant track and field coach at the University of Texas. At Texas Hayes won the NCAA South Central Championships in cross country and assisted in winning Four Big12 conference titles (two indoor and two outdoor) from 2002 to 2004. Prior to Texas, Hayes was the head cross country and assistant track and field coach at Morehouse College in Atlanta from 1997 to 2000.
In 2005-2006 Hayes coached Johanna Nilsson who is a 2-time National Champion on the track and an NCAA champion in cross country as well, she currently holds the National course record with a time of 19:34. |
