- See Less -Robert Chapman's propensity for understanding the chemistry of successful training is something that he brings to his coaching style. While Chapman was at Indiana University the Hoosiers achieved NCAA Championships, All-American Honors, All-Big 10 Honors---when he became Head Coach in 1998, the Hoosiers have had 16 All-Americans and 61 runners in the NCAA meets. In Coach Chapman's world, these successes do not evolve serendipitously; he has methodically researched the science of running; he started with degree in secondary education-chemistry in 1991, he earned his master's in exercise physiology in 1992, followed by a Ph.D. in human performance and exercise physiology in 1996. He then went on as research fellow for the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine where he coordinated a USATF and Olympic Committee project on 'live high-train low' altitude training model. His work on limits of distance running performance with a recruited group of elite runners is respected as clearly defining how top world athletes train. In addition to being a respected resource and author, Coach Chapman has made the chemistry of successful running a reality. Coach Chapman coached the Jefferson twins, Sean and John, and Stephen Haas to multiple All-American Awards and one national title. Currently Coach Chapman is coaching a post collegiate group in Bloomington, called Team Indiana Elite. The group is presently sponsored by Brooks.
