Lets just leave the designing to the professionals. a shirt that has a box with made in America inside it, screams no creativity, but that is just my opinion. wasn't impressed too much with the entries.

I really enjoy these contests, however, i have a few objections/insights:

The way that you have the voting set up only encourages people to go out and promote their design on facebook/myspace. (Good way to bring in traffic for the site, BAD WAY to get skewed votes for a contest) Although i also agree that the shirts that are likely to win are some of the best designs.
I also agree with martin about setting up some sort of round(s) for voting. This would eliminate most of the bad designs and let people focus on the ones that are better. Most people don't have time to click through 80+ designs, especially when some are as terrible as they are (mine included).
I feel that the ones who should win are going to win, but i also feel that there is a better way to run these contests.
Thanks for all you do! Keep up the great work. Have fun at Nationals!

Just click on the little map, then click on someones location. When the shirt thing pops-up, click on that. It will bring you to that shirt and you can just click "View All Photos" or whatever it says.

As was stated below, 25% of the shoes NB makes involve US production. Look on the tongue label to determine the origin of the shoe you're looking at as only select styles have the flag sticker on the box. That doesn't mean the shoe did not come from a US factory.

Whiteside - what are they going to pay you with if they don't make any money - think of all the shoes and sizes they have to have on hand that they don't and won't sell!

Ya and just to let you guys know... prices for running shoes are a joke... take for instance an Asics Nimbus, it cost 66 dollars at unit price. We then sell them for 125 at retail... Almost a 100% price increase. Retailers should be partly to blame though... everyone wants a quick buck.

Just to let everyone know... I work at a running store and I was reading about New Balance... only 20% of their shoes are made in the U.S. The shoes we receive never have a made in the U.S sticker...

I'd say giving hundreds of Americans a job is pretty good. And I don't think New Balance is any more expensive than Nike, which is not made in America

don't want to be a d***, but is American shoe production really a plus if other countries can produce the same product much more cheaply. if foreign workers have a comparative advantage in the production of shoes, the production of shoes domestically would indicate inefficiencies: New Balance must commit more resources to inefficiently produce shoes within our borders. the tradeoff: either a) consumers bear the increased cost of the inefficiency, or b) consumers will pay an equivalent sum for an inferior product. for new balance to cite "nationalism/patriotism" as reason for consumers to bear the cost of inefficiency is an appeal to ignorance. New Balance should expect one thing of the consumer: for him/her to purchase the best product for the lowest cost. such will not be a characteristic of a product produced in a country without a comparative advantage over that of its competition.

The Wolf shirt is my pick to click as well.

The wolf shirt is the obvious winner. Its original, patriotic, and extremely artistic. It doesn't matter how the vote is done, that shirt has already taken gold.

The voting should start after the upload period is over, so that everyone has the chance to get an equal number of votes. Otherwise the first submissions will receive a greater number of votes, and thus a greater number of points.

unless a solution to get rid of the facebook problem is given, then there should be no public voting. When you have the public voting on here there is always going to be the cheater who starts a facebook group, or creates multiple accounts so there entry wins not off great design or a great idea, but rather an entry that wins off of who can get the most people to vote for them.

If Mark really is using this comment thread to get an idea of the views and opinions of the floTrack community regarding the judging process of this contest, I feel like I should voice my opinion. Since so many people seem satisfied to leave the power of the ultimate decision of this contest in the hands of a select few, I have to respect that consensus. But I think, just as congress operates, the public should be able to vote for a week to give the decision makers a 'suggestion' as to what the people feel is the best shirt. This way people cannot complain when (and I say 'when' because it will inevitably happen because of the subjective nature of design contests) the judges decision does not align with their opinion. The judges only real purpose should be to avoid a coup in the voting when a design that is undeserving is voted 'the best' through false pretenses, be it from facebook or elsewhere.

Come on, everybody knows 5 stars is better than 1...give people some credit. Unlike you, they have a brain. The flag shirt has a lot of votes because it was uploaded in the first day of the contest and it has low ratings because it is an awfully ugly design...and I realize you are trying to be helpful, but read more than the last few comments before giving these suggestions...

I agree that the rules should not be changed in the middle of the contest. Aren't the fellas and gals who are judging also Americans? Let's let them have some judicious examination of all the designs in full page vilews so they can get real effect of designs and pick the best of the best as originally planned.

Its one thing to have the americans vote. Its another thing to let us vote, and include the d-bags that only want their design to win, or the guy who goes on facebook and gets all their friends to vote just because. Its been said before, letting only registered users vote would eliminate most of the 'cheating'. I'm 100% for letting the employees at NB pick the design.

I think FloTrack and NB should pick the winner. American's got to design the shirt, now let the judges pick.

Mark, I think some people are not voting with 1 being less likely and 5 being most desired. See the shirt with the furled flag on front and back. It has alot of votes but not high ones. That doesn't make sense. Maybe you need to have the voting be done after all the shirt designs are in and explain the voting whether you and your team do the final pick or all the rest of us do it.....Just a suggestion. Love the designs so far.

Man this guy has me flip flopping. I was in agreement with the posters below that said we should pick. I was thinking that voters would pick top 5 and then Ryan, myself, James Carney, Stephen Haas and Dan Green would pick the winner but this post is making rethink that idea. It is America and the people should decide. I am torn now.

Is there any way voting could be limited to logged in users? That way people can't just network with their myspace / facebook friends and tell people that don't care about running at all to vote for their design without looking at the other entries. Accounts are free to have so this wouldn't put anyone at a disadvantage.

I honestly want to know what some of these people are thinking when "designing" a t-shirt. if this is the "style" of shirt you would wear, then I would hate to see the rest of your clothes.

All the votes will be reset when the official voting starts in 10 days (not this thursday but next thursday).

This really should be judged by someone at Flotrack or New Balance as it does look like people are just rating down all of the designs but their own. There are some shirts that aren't my own which I think are great that surely are worth more than two stars. Don't let this comp turn out like the spike design one Mark...

It looks like most people are voting down shirts instead of voting up the shirts they like. Either they all are just that crappy, or people are going through and giving them all 1's except their own. My shirt is way down there, and I thought it was one of the most creative ones, maybe i'm just biased though. These contests never turn out to be legitimate

Hey Leroy - At least they make an attempt to make some shoes domestically. 100% of your Brooks, Sacuony, Nike etc. shoes are made in China - 100%. And those 13 year-olds are really technical in how they build a shoe.

I didnt think we made anything in the USA anymore. refreshing.

About 25% of the shoes NB produces annually involve production in US factories. Included in that number is our NBx collection of technical running shoes which are primarily assembled in either MA or ME as you can see in the video with the worker finishing a women's 1224.

the made in usa label is a little misleading. only a few of their shoes have any portion of their manufacturing in the us. the most technical factories are in china. I wouldnt buy a shoe made in the us for sure after seeing that video
