After transferring from Oregon to ASU, Alcorn helped the Sun Devil's to an NCAA Indoor Team Title by anchoring the runner-up DMR team and upsetting the field in the 3,000m to win the individual title. Outdoors, Alcorn proved that the indoor season was no fluke by winning the NCAA 3,000m Steeplechase title. Soon after, he signed with Nike and earned a spot on Team U.S.A. in the steeplechase at the 2009 World Track and Field Championships in Berlin, Germany.
