- See Less -The University of Oregon track and field athlete started breaking records on a junior national and American high school level while competing for Portland’s Central Catholic High School. In 2004 he broke a 40-year-old U.S. junior record for the 5000m by almost seven seconds (13:37.91). Rupp also holds the U.S. high school record for 3000m at 8:03.57 and the U.S. junior record for 10,000m at 28:15.52.
Rupp’s collegiate career at the University of Oregon started out with a bang as he broke the 10,000m record in 27:33.48. In 2006, he became the 10th Oregon runner to win a Pac-10 title. Rupp finished second to lead the Oregon Ducks to the 2007 NCAA Men’s cross-country team championship.
Other career highlights include a 2005 USA Junior Cross Country championship, record holdings in U.S. Junior 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m, and a runner-up in the 2007 USA Outdoor competition.
Fernandez does look good i must admit, but Rupp im not convinced.
I was 28 when i ran 27:30, 19yrs ago & dont copy my name.
Your not my long lost son are you?
I'm pretty sure that was a 5k and you're just confused as to the difference
Face up to it Galen aint that good.
Sfduck i ran 27:30 for 10k so why should i be jealous.
If sitting back behind a leader is bad, I must be confused. I thought this is why meet directors hire rabbits...
I bet the kids at school took the piss out of him with a name like Galen.
What were is parents thinkin of. Mind you it could have been worse or could it?
Thoughts please
But also, as Mark states, he still has a 5k to run, so I'm sure he's conserving energy. Plus, he has bigger plans that the NCAA title, no matter what he says. This is just a step along the way to the more important stuff. Why bust out a huge 10k here and risk hurting or tiring himself too much for USAs and/or the summer.
Rupp is a dirty racer. Just like in indoor 5k CR, he wouldn't share the lead and sat on everyone else. All distance runners know there is an un-written rule to share the lead in long races. Rupp doesn't do that and I don't respect him.
haha "un-written rule" what is that?
He is not that GOOD!
Get real will you.
Way to go Galen! Boy, seems like he's matured about 10 years in the last 2 - much more articulate and thoughtful.
But the big question is what sort of parent calls there child Galen i ask you.
