just because it happens other places also doesn't make how the WIAA sets up the qualifying OK. I wasn't saying I was the only one, just the fact that every year potential state placers are left sitting at home to watch the race is wrong. It just happened to happen to me this year.
Stop complaining about the qualifying, you aren't the only one who gets screwed allan, it happens all over not just in spokane. its worse in seattle district 2 because the number of spots shifts with seamount/st. helens every year.

it would be more of a privilige for him to be called by his actual name, Weitz, and get the recognition he deserves for being a FRESHMAN that runs 9:13! Keep it up, Weitz.
The WIAA should put a little subjectivity into their qualifying standards for state. Everything is purely objective and based on school numbers and the eastside gets screwed over because of it. The same thing with XC, easily the greatest district in our state, gets the fewest amount of bids some years while the SPSL/Narrows league gets about 6 just because they have a ton of schools that have poor XC programs.

We agree with you Allan. The GSL should have had 1 through 4 (in our minds we do - I know that's little consolation to you). What we were wondering is why can't they evaluate the field every year and have a couple of wild cards by invite based on time. Especially for anyone whose time is faster than any of the other region's winning times. They can add a few competitors, if they need to, with no impact on the manageability of the race.
Run said: That was embarrassing that they kept calling Weitz "Reiter" (not rider) when Weitz clearly had the word "Shadle" stamped across his singlet. Come on Flotrack, get it together.
Not that they couldn't have identified Nathan correctly by observing the "Shadle" on his jersey as you suggest but just to let you know that there was some switching of the start positions going on. Nathan was originally stuck in the 3rd row lane 1 because he was (in their minds) the final entrant to the field. I guess one of his coaches was able to successfully argue that he should be in row 1 due to having the 3rd fastest qualifying time. They assigned him a new number. The commentators were not aware of the reassigned hip number.
nope our auto-qualifier was 9:13.72, I ran a 9:14.7. And they say the auto qualifier is based on the average winning times from the last three years, which I doubt averages out to a 9:13
I am in the SPSL (west-side) and I would have to agree that a person who can run a 9:14 should run. I would think with that time that you have the automatic qualifying time???
Seeing as the top guy in the our district, which allows six people to qualify, was a 9:32.
Ya it just suchs to know that they ran basically the exact same splits as our regional race so I know I would have been with them, and just because the west side has more schools they get 10 that go on to state, and we got to. So I end up paying for it
Schroeder you should have been in that race, its wrong that a potential Allstate athlete is sitting at home. The wiaa needs to change this, the numbers dont lie.
I definitely appreciate the coverage as a former GSL athlete. I just have to say that it is becoming a trend for Flotrack to not research the events they are covering. Yes, lots of races, lots to know. But, as a distance-focused site, you should mention, or focus on, the fact that the top two placers are teammates at North Central, the current Nike XC Team champion. The top two runners on the best team in the nation trying to go 1-2 at state, that is a compelling story and wasnt mentioned once. Also, the third place kid from Shadle is a FRESHMAN and runs 9:13. Again, not mentioned at all, but will probably be, comparatively, the best performance of the meet.
Ahhh it's so hard to watch this, I shoulda been in this race, I ran 9:14 at our regional race with the NC guys and Nathan Weitz, but because of the WIAA, I didnt even get a chance to run with them. Such crap. Great race though guys. Awesome.
That was embarrassing that they kept calling Weitz "Reiter" (not rider) when Weitz clearly had the word "Shadle" stamped across his singlet. Come on Flotrack, get it together.
Wow! Did you see those Camas girls in the 4x400 relay? They blew everyone away with a 3:58.74, a seven second improvement from the qualifier last week. They were out to win after dropping the baton in the 4 X200 relay. Way to go girls!!
I got cho back Schroeder.
