The Nike Oregon Project duo of Matt Centrowitz and Galen Rupp will return to competition next Thursday at the Portland-based Stumptown Twilight.
Centrowitz is following a hefty double from Sunday’s Portland Twilight meet where the World Indoor Champion ran 1:47.69 in the 800m and 3:41.39 in the 1500m. The performances were Centrowitz’s first outdoor track races since suffering a stress reaction after the indoor season. The Oregonian's Ken Goe spoke to his coach Alberto Salazar about the middle-distance runner's return to health.

Watch Centrowitz open up outdoor season at the Portland Twilight 800m:
The three-time World medalist is entered in the 3000m at Stumptown and will run alongside teammate Rupp. Rupp competed in the 5K at Portland Twilight, which also marked his first outdoor race of the season after winning the Olympic Marathon Trials in February. Rupp powered down the homestretch of Lewis & Clark College in 13:20 to claim the victory in front of a roaring Portland home crowd.
When asked if he would compete in just the 10K at the Olympic Trials, Rupp replied, “We’ll see. I’m not ruling anything out.”
World Junior Championships finalist Mary Cain and Nike Oregon Project standout Jordan Hasay will also contend in the 1500m and 5K, respectively.
Other notable entries include a host of NCAA All Americans looking to earn Olympic Trials qualifying marks. Stanford’s Grant Fisher, Portland’s Reid Buchanan and Woody Kincaid, Oregon’s Sam Prakel, Syracuse’s Justyn Knight, and Stanford’s Aisling Cuffe are just a few committed to throw down in Portland.
