Donavan Brazier Signs With Nike
UPDATE: Roughly 45 minutes after this story was published, Global Athletics put a release on its site announcing that Brazier has indeed signed with Nike. In the release, Brazier says that “This whole season has been unbelievable, and I can’t put into words what it means to me to run so fast and win the NCAA Championships as a freshman. I can’t thank my coaches and teammates at Texas A&M, my parents and all my friends and family enough for all their guidance and support. Nike is such a huge supporter of track in America and I’m incredibly grateful to them for the opportunity to continue my career as a professional and see where this journey takes me.”

Our original story appears below.

Donavan Brazier may have just signed with Nike. The NCAA 800m champion and collegiate record-holder is now listed as a client of Global Athletics (Mark Wetmore's agency, as reported when he turned pro) and his page has a Nike logo it.

Other athletes in Wetmore's stable have their respective sponsorship logo on their profile pages. Some examples include Meseret Defar/adidas, Donn Cabral/Nike, Mac Fleet/Nike, Morgan Uceny/adidas, Andrew Wheating/Nike, Anna Willard/Oiselle, and Nick Willis/adidas.

Industry sources have said that Brazier would command between $300,000 and $500,000 a year (though whether that money would be without reductions is an open question). Brazier turned pro weeks after breaking the 50-year-old collegiate and American junior record in the 800m. The then-college freshman ran 1:43.55 to win the NCAA final against a stacked veteran field. Most recently, he entered and then scratched from the USATF Junior Championships. Brazier is entered in the 800m at the Olympic Trials, which begins on Friday at 4:15 p.m. PT.

FloTrack has reached out to Global Athletics' Mark Wetmore and Jorge Torres, and will update this story as soon as they respond for comment.
