Flashback Friday: Best Moments of the 2012 Olympic Trials
Just hours away from the first race of the 2016 Olympic Trials, we thought it was time to revisit some of our favorite Trials moments of 2012.

Women's 1500m Final

A year after falling in the world championship final, Morgan Uceny came back on a mission. She took control of a tight race in the last lap and captured the first spot on the team by running 4:09.59.

Women's 5K Semifinal

Fleshman was a major comeback story in U.S. distance running in 2012. Though she didn't end up making the Olympic team, she raced the 5K at the Trials despite an injury that limited her running to 11 miles a week. She came up big in her semifinal to make the finals!

Men's 5K Final

Who could forget the kick that left the crowd roaring in 2012? Galen Rupp and Bernard Lagat traded the lead in the final lap before Rupp took the victory in the last few steps of the thrilling battle.

Men's 1500m Final

Then there was the men's 1500m—a field loaded with Oregon products Andrew Wheating, Jordan McNamara, and Matthew Centrowitz. Young Centro was fresh off his first Nike Oregon Project camp, and ran a tough last lap. But in a tactical finish, Manzano took the crown.

Women's 100m Final

Speaking of close finishes, the women's 100m final was perhaps the closest battle for a third Team USA spot in history. Allyson Felix and Jenebah Tarmoh waited almost 24 hours for the USATF ruling: The choice between a coin flip and runoff for the coveted third spot. In the end, Felix would go on to run in London, but the controversial decision still hasn't been forgotten four years later.

Men's Decathlon

Before Ashton Eaton won Olympic gold and covered the walls of every Nike store, he was a Bowerman award winner and recent Oregon graduate who entered his first Trials with big hopes of just making the Olympic team. Though there was some buzz about his chances, no one expected Eaton to shatter an 11-year-old decathlon world record by scoring a whopping 9039 points. Following his prestigious score, Eaton went on to win gold in London and recently broke his own record with 9045 points at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.

Men's 800m Run

Last, but not least, we can't forget the 800m final where Nick Symmonds made his second Olympic team. It looked like Duane Soloman would be the 2012 champion until Symmonds shifted into another gear and kicked strong for the win.
