NAIA Moves Cross Country Nationals From Charlotte Less Than 2 Months Out
The 2016 NAIA Cross Country Championships announced Tuesday that it is moving the event due to North Carolina's House Bill 2.
The 2016 NAIA Cross Country Championships were scheduled for November 19 in Charlotte's McAlpine Park, but the NAIA announced Tuesday that it is moving the event due to North Carolina's House Bill 2. HB2 is best known as the "bathroom bill" banning transgender people from using bathrooms that match their gender identities. But it also prevents North Carolina cities and counties from making employment discrimination against LGBT people illegal, and says that only the state can pass anti-discrimination laws.
We believe the NAIA XC nationals is the first major track or cross country event to get moved because of HB2, but the NCAA earlier moved all of its championship events from North Carolina and the NBA moved the 2016 All-Star Game from Charlotte.
