U.S. Air Force November High School Athlete Of The Month: Casey Clinger
American Fork senior Casey Clinger has won 14 consecutive cross country races over three mile and 5K in 2015 and 2016, a streak that trails only two-time Foot Locker champion Grant Fisher in recent history. For his recent success, he has been named the U.
For Casey Clinger, the view from the top is anything but lonely. The nation's No. 1 ranked runner also leads the No. 1 ranked team in the nation: American Fork.
Last year, Clinger won the individual Nike Cross Nationals title as a junior and led the Cavemen to a shocking runner-up team finish after they had placed just fourth in the Southwest Region.
Clinger has won 14 consecutive cross country races over three mile and 5K in 2015 and 2016, a streak that trails only two-time Foot Locker champion Grant Fisher in recent history. His winning time of 14:42.9 at the Utah Class 5A State Championship set a new meet record.
On Saturday, Clinger could become the first athlete to win two individual national titles in Portland.
American Fork could also potentially win the team title. The team is undefeated this year and Clinger led an impressive 1-2-3 sweep at NXN Southwest, which many consider to be the toughest boys' region in the nation.
The senior has not yet announced where he will compete in college, though his top two choices are BYU and Oregon.
