Matt Centrowitz Dominates 3K In 7:50 Season Opener
In his second track race since winning Olympic gold and his first race of 2017, Matt Centrowitz coasted to an easy win. Behind pacer (and former Oregon Project athlete) Ciaran Ó Lionáird, Centrowitz pulled away in the first 400 meters. Once Ó Lionáird dropped out, Centro was all alone in the lead and was never challenged. His 7:49.89 is a UW Indoor Preview meet record.
Gonzaga's Troy Fraley was second in 8:00, and professionals Craig Lutz and Dan Huling were third and fourth in 8:01 and 8:03. Centrowitz's 3000m PR is 7:40, so tonight was a solid performance from him.
