Sammy Watson was No. 3 all-time indoors in the 600 meters, No. 2 in the 1K, and No. 6 in the 800 meters. But she had never set an individual national record. (Watson was on the sprint medley relay record-breaking team in 2015.) She finally got one today, running 1:28.67 for 600 meters. Her New York rival Kamryn McIntosh had the old prep standard at 1:28.78, set two years ago.

Watson was competing at the relatively low-key Section 5 vs. Section 6 Invite in Houghton, New York. She won her race by nine seconds.

It was announced earlier this month that Watson and McIntosh are going to race each other in the 600 meters in two weeks at the Armory Track Invitational.
