UTEP freshman Emmanuel Korir showed today that he isn't just one of the best 800 meter runners in the collegiate ranks--he's one of the best in the world. The 21-year-old won the 800 final at the Kenyan Trials in 1:43.86, clinching a spot on the Kenyan team at the IAAF World Championships in London in August. His teammate Michael Saruni finished third.

The duo sandwiched Kipyegon Bett and beat out stalwart Ferguson Rotich for the two spots. Rotich was fifth in the Olympic final last summer and fourth at the 2015 world championships. David Rudisha did not compete; he has a bye as the defending world champion.

Korir competed in the Nike kit that pros wear.
