2017 FloXC Countdown: #6 Cal Baptist Women
Follow our 2017 FloXC Countdown, where FloTrack ranks the top ten cross country teams and individuals in the NCAA this season which will be LIVE on FloTrack. The No. 6 women's spot goes to Cal Baptist, and here's why:

Probable Top Five:

SR Katie Deimling (10:35 3K SC; 39th at '16 NCAA XC)
SO Anett Somogyi (10:23 3K SC; 54th at '16 NCAA XC)
SR Katherine Robinson (35:37 10K; 69th at '16 NCAA XC)
JR Emeline Delanis (16:37 5K; 97th at '16 NCAA XC)
SR Kim Rabenstein (81st at '16 NCAA XC)

Analysis:

By returning a full top seven with no obvious weak links, Cal Baptist has positioned themselves to better their school-best ninth place finish from a year ago. All five scorers finished in the top-100 last November; even more exciting than that is the Lancers' depth, as their 6-7 runners at NCAAs, Leanda du Bruyn and Fruzsina Ladanyi, were the team's 2-3 runner at regionals. Cal Baptist truly has seven interchangeable pieces that are all capable of big contributions.

Katie Deimling is the team's lone returning All-American and earns the #1 distinction in this crowded bunch. The senior-to-be improved dramatically in her junior season, going from 166th at nationals in 2015 to 39th last November. Her track times reflected that step up as well, as Deimling cut 11 seconds off her steeple best this spring and qualified for NCAA outdoor for the first time. Even with her run of success, the competition for the top spot on this team will be intense, as sophomore Anett Somogyi was the conference champion in 2016 and finished ninth in the NCAA steeple.

Who exactly fills the 3-5 slots is not quite as clear, but Cal Baptist's depth will ensure that they aren't forced to put a dud in their top five. Emeline Delanis broke the school record in the 3k (9:57) and 5k (16:37) this spring, so one figures she'll be a constant presence, but otherwise the fight to contribute will be an entertaining battle between the other four ladies.
