With seven nationally ranked teams leading the way, the NCAA Great Lakes cross country regional is projected to be a thrilling showdown to get to the ultimate championship race, the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Women

Who: Teams -- No. 10 Michigan, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 23 Eastern Michigan, No. 24 Michigan State, Ohio State
Individuals -- No. 16 Katherine Receveur, Indiana
When: 11:15 AM ET
Why: No. 10 Michigan is the top-ranked team in the Great Lakes region after securing a momentous Big Ten Conference title. The Wolverines captured back-to-back conference championships for the first time in over a decade by beating runner-up Minnesota by 31 points. The women's team victory followed the Michigan men's team championship, marking the first time since 1993 that the program secured a sweep of the conference titles. Led by third- and fourth-place individual finishes from Jamie Morrissey and Gina Sereno, the Wolverines placed five within the top 17 places to dominate the notoriously tough conference. For the past 15 years, Michigan has qualified for the NCAA cross country championships, and this year should be no exception.

No. 17 Wisconsin is returning to competition after securing a third-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. The performance marked the best team finish since 2014. Prior to Big Tens, the Badgers earned a ninth-place finish at the competitive Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational where the team finished within six points of No. 5 Stanford.

No. 23 Eastern Michigan and No. 25 Michigan State will be the other ranked teams to watch out of the Great Lakes. As of conference weekend, both teams are projected to make it to the NCAA championships, according to the Butler projections. Ohio State is also projected to qualify as the last team in.

In the individual race, Indiana's Kat Receveur is projected to finish within the top 16 finishers at the Big Dance. Receveur burst onto the scene last year when she finished 11th at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships. During the 2017 track season, she notched All-American finishes in the indoor 3K and outdoor 5K, highlighted by a third-place finish in the 5K in June. So far this fall, Receveur has notched a runner-up finish at the Battle in Beantown, a victory at the Sam Bell Invitational, a 10th-place finish at the Wisconsin Invitational, and a recent win at the Big Ten championships. Based on her past performances, the Indiana junior is ready to claim the Great Lakes individual crown.

Men

Who: Teams -- No. 14 Michigan, No. 17 Michigan State, No. 25 Wisconsin
Individuals -- No. 25 Oliver Hoare, Wisconsin
When: 12:15 PM ET
Why: Three nationally ranked teams highlight the men's competition in the Great Lakes. Like the women's team, the No. 14 Michigan Wolverines are poised to earn another win in Terre Haute. The team has progressed nicely this season, starting with a fourth-place finish at the Joe Piane Invitational. From there, the Wolverines secured an impressive eighth-place finish at the Wisconsin Invitational and continued the momentum with a Big Ten cross country title at the end of October. The conference championship marked the program's second title in the past three seasons, and the team accomplished the feat by scoring all five men within the first 25 finishers.

Behind Michigan at Big Tens was No. 17 Michigan State and No. 25 Wisconsin, who will all face off yet again at Great Lakes. The Spartans were led by a one-two punch with a third-place finish from senior Clark Ruiz and a fifth-place finish from Morgan Beadlescomb.

The Badgers will also be led with some star power with No. 25 individual Oliver Hoare, who just won the individual crown at the Big Ten championships. According to the latest Kolas projections, Wisconsin is the first team out when it comes to qualifying for the NCAA championships.
