For the second straight year, the North Carolina State women's cross country team claimed the NCAA Southeast Region crown. The Wolfpack pulled away from early leader Furman to earn a winning score of 68 points over the Paladins, who finished runner-up with 83 points on Friday morning in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Both NC State and Furman have earned automatic qualifying spots to compete at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville. No. 6 NC State will be aiming to improve on the program's fourth-place finish from last year's NCAA championship.

For Furman, the performance marks the first time in program history that the Paladins have qualified for the NCAA championship.

The individual crown was claimed by Caroline Sang from Charlotte, who finished in 20:05, five seconds ahead of runner-up Allie Buchalski of Furman.

The Wolfpack score was earned in large part by the 1-2-3 punch of Dominique Clairmonte (fifth), Elly Henes (sixth), and Bethlehem Taye (eighth). Fourth and fifth scorers Rachel Koon and Ryen Frazier followed in 16th and 33rd.

The Paladins beat the Hokies by putting five scorers in the first 17 finishing spots. The team's average time was a blazing 29:26 for the 10K course. Furman will be looking to improve on their current No. 7 FloXC national ranking.

With the men's team earning an automatic qualifying spot after the women, Furman will have both teams competing at the NCAA championships for the first time in program history.
