Three Must-See Races At The Puma New York International Showcase
Three Must-See Races At The Puma New York International Showcase
For the first time, the PUMA New York International Showcase is bringing athletes from Jamaica to clash with the best of the best in the U.S.

In its inaugural running, the PUMA New York International Showcase is giving track and field fans a potential all-time classic in 'The Big Apple.'
Powerhouse Jamaican programs including Hydel and Excelsior are making the trip up north for a little preview of athletes and teams they'll see in a few months at the 2025 Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
While there are many athletes and events that are worth taking note of, we narrowed it down to three of the most important storylines happening over the next two days.

1. Colin Abrams & Stefon Dodoo Set To Clash Over 800m
Two of the top mid-distance runners in the nation will race in Staten Island this weekend, as Bullis School's (MD) Colin Abrams and Springside Chestnut Hill's (PA) Stefon Dodoo are going head-to-head for the first time this year. Both seniors boast sub-1:50 PBs, with Abrams running 1:49.71 a little over a year ago at New Balance Nationals Indoor and Dodoo clocking 1:49.69 at the PAISAA Championship last May.
So far this indoor campaign, Abrams has dabbled in the 600m (1:19) and 1000m (2:24), while Dodoo has already gotten his half-mile rust buster out of the way, running 1:54.23 last weekend in Philadelphia. If either one wants to call themselves the fastest in the country, it'll take a winning time quicker than 1:51.71 to do so.
2. Hydel High School Looking To Fend Off American Challengers
Over the years, the 4x400m battles between the American and Jamaican squads have been historically fast and incredibly entertaining. This year, instead of having to wait for the battles at the Penn Relays, fans are treated to an indoor duel between the American contingent and the speedy challengers from Hydel, a Jamaican powerhouse.
Last April, Hydel held off Bullis at the Penn Relays as the two teams crossed the line in 3:34.78 and 3:35.17, respectively.
Additionally, Winslow Township (NJ) and South County (VA) could each play spoiler if everything goes their way in the 4x400m showdown.
3. Shanoya Douglas Looking For Triple Gold In 60m, 200m & 400m
One of the fastest prep athletes in the world is making her way to New York as the World U20 200m bronze medalist is trying to claim triple gold over the next two days at Ocean Breeze Park and Athletic Complex. Shanoya Douglas had an incredibly lengthy and exhausting outdoor campaign last summer, but the 17-year-old Jamaican is already making up for lost time.
Earlier this month, Douglas made her 2025 debut at the JC Spring Fest and Pure Water/R. Danny Williams JC Meet. Over the span of both days, Douglas won the 100m, 200m, and 400m, running 11.56, 54.56 and 23.62. However, the rising star will definitely have her work cut out for as she'll have to take down West Warwick's (RI) Lisa Raye and Fort Bend Christian Academy's (TX) Bayleigh Minor.
