In her final NCAA Championships, Sutherland cruised through the prelims, winning her semi-final by over two seconds. In the final, Sutherland had already found herself in the lead by the time she cleared the second hurdle.
Over the next seven hurdles, Sutherland gradually pulled away from the immensely talented field, breaking the tape as the clock read 52.46, breaking Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's seven-year-old record of 52.75.
The Saskatchewan native is no stranger to the NCAA podium, having won her first national title in 2023 and runner-up a year ago. However, the Canadian was able to wrap up her collegiate career atop the podium.
Sutherland, who finished seventh at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is not only the collegiate record holder but also the meet record holder (obviously), and now the fastest Canadian in history by nearly two seconds.
Sutherland is also the ninth-fastest woman in world history and the 10th to ever break 52.50.
