WomenÂÂ’s race will see 20 ranked teams compete, menÂÂ’s race to feature 19 ranked squads

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia menÂÂ’s and womenÂÂ’s cross country teams head to Madison, Wis., for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday (Oct. 12) at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. The womenÂÂ’s 6K race will begin at 1 p.m., while the menÂÂ’s 8K run is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET.

On the menÂÂ’s side, the No. 29 Cavaliers are one of 19 ranked teams competing in the 46-school field, while the women, ranked No. 6 in the latest USTFCCCA Southeast Region poll, will be in action against 20 nationally-ranked squads and 48 schools in total.

Last time out, the Cavaliers hosted the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 22, where both teams finished third. The men were led by graduate transfer Zach Gates (Fishers, Ind.), who placed fourth, while senior Sean Keveren (Brentwood, Tenn.) finished seventh overall. Graduate student Catherine White (Roanoke, Va.) led the women, crossing the line in second overall.

Gates and White were named the Atlantic Coast Conference MenÂÂ’s and WomenÂÂ’s Cross Country Performers of the Week for their efforts.

Up next, the Cavaliers will compete at the 2012 ACC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 27 in Blacksburg, Va.
