From MileSplit: Broomfield placed third at Pat Patten earlier this season, tying the score of NXR Southwest winner Battle Mountain. The Colorado state runners-up may have been aided by their seventh-place showing at NXN last year, which they also qualified for via a wild-card bid.
Automatic Boys Team Qualifiers
At-large qualifier: Timpanogos High, UT (3rd)
From MileSplit: Timpanogos had perhaps the strongest resume of any of the boys wild card contenders, having beaten NXN auto-qualifiers Springville and Central Valley at Bob Firman earlier this season. They placed third in the Utah state meet merge behind Springville and American Fork, but proceeded to trounce American Fork at NXR Southwest. None of these teams were locks for wild card bids, but Timpanogos wasn't far off.
At-large qualifier: Desert Vista, AZ (4th)
From MileSplit: Desert Vista certainly qualifies as the most shocking wild card bid on the boys side (sorry, Burnt Hills and Lyons Township). The Arizona state champs are going to NXN off the strength of their performance at Woodbridge, where they placed second behind Great Oak and soundly defeated several California powerhouses plus Texas's Southlake Carroll, which earned an auto-bid by placing second at NXR South.

At-large qualifier: Saratoga Springs, NY (3rd)
From MileSplit: Saratoga Springs took home a surprise victory at the New York Federation Championships last weekend and beat a ton of quality opponents at NXR New York. The Blue Streaks also won the prestigious Ocean State XC Invitational back in September. Beyond that, their resume isn't particularly impressive, but New York always gets a wild card bid.

At-large qualifier: Blacksburg, VA
From MileSplit: Blacksburg defeated a deep field to win Great American last month and dominated in-state competition throughout the season. They were picked by many to win NXR Southeast but have still managed to qualify for NXN for the sixth year in a row via a wild card bid.

At-large qualifier: Green Hope, NC (3rd)
From MileSplit: Green Hope placed second to Flo50 No. 2 Loudoun Valley in a somewhat close race at Great American, where they absolutely destroyed Bolles, which earned an auto-bid to NXN by placing second in the Southeast region. One week later, they beat Bolles and Corning at Manhattan -- again, both teams that earned auto-bids to NXN. Their North Carolina state championship doesn't hurt, either.

In addition to their third-place showing in the CIF state meet merge, Claremont scored a big win back in September at Bob Firman, where they took down Bozeman and Mountain View. They also defeated Buchanan at Clovis and placed second at Mt. SAC.

From MileSplit: California was always going to receive at least one wild card bid to NXN, and St. Francis Mountain View placed the highest of any of the contending teams in the CIF state meet merge.
