This week, FloTrack will introduce you to all six Bowerman finalists ahead of Friday's Bowerman Awards, which will crown one male and one female as the best track and field athletes in the NCAA for the 2017 season. You can watch the awards ceremony live from Phoenix on FloTrack here.

ATHLETE: Lindon Victor
YEAR: SENIOR
COLLEGE: Texas A&M
EVENT: Multi-Events

NCAA ACCOLADES IN 2017:

- Broke the NCAA record in the decathlon twice, first bettering Trey Hardee's 11-year-old mark of 8,465 points with a total score of 8,472 points at the Texas Relays, then improving that with a score of 8,539 to win the SEC Championships
- Owns the best second-day score in collegiate history with 4,174 points
- Won the NCAA Division I Outdoor decathlon title by 209 points
- Earned All-American honors at the NCAA DI Indoor Championships with a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon

Why He Will Win: In becoming the first collegian to surpass 8,500 points, Lindon Victor bested two of the most widely recognizable track and field athletes in world history: Trey Hardee, a two-time world champion and Olympic silver medalist, and Ashton Eaton, the five-time world champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and world record holder. Decathletes have special significance in popular culture as the "world's greatest athletes" and who could be more deserving of an overall superlative like The Bowerman than a man who is better than any at 10 diverse events on the track? It helps that Eaton, the 2010 Bowerman Award winner, gets a vote here — we bet he's supporting his fellow multi-event athlete.

Why He Won't Win: Lindon Victor's greatness was reserved for the decathlon this year. He still finished in fifth with All-American honors in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships, but his overall record may seem lacking in comparison with his peers' flawless indoor and outdoor campaigns.

Austin, Texas, Chasing History With Olympic Trials Bid

Austin, Texas, has hosted the NCAA track and field championships and currently stages one of the largest track meets of the calendar, the Texas Relays. The city has a robust road racing scene, bolstered by the presence of elite athletes and high-level training groups. But Austin has never hosted a USA track and field championship event — not for any distance on the roads, cross country or track and field. And certainly not the Olympic Trials.
