House Of Run Podcast: Millrose/US XC Recap, Cheserek On Fire

Greetings, FloTrack!

I’m Kevin and I started working with FloTrack at the end of 2017. By now, you might have seen some of my articles or videos on the site. I got my start in this whole world of track and field media when I co-created a podcast in 2010 with my good friend (and former high school teammate) Jason. The goal was to create a weekly running podcast where we discussed running, and track and field, the way higher profile sports were covered. More than seven years later, we are still recording each week.

I’m excited to bring the show over to FloTrack and I hope that you give us a listen each week. Feel free to comb back through the archives that feature interviews with athletes, analysts and others around the sport.

You’ll also find some predictions that have aged well (Jason called the Mo Farah-Galen Rupp 1-2 finish in London at the beginning of 2012) and some that haven’t (in 2015 I insisted that under no circumstance would Rupp run a marathon).

I also co-host the On The Run podcast with my FloTrack colleague Jojo, so if you are looking for listening material during your long run, we’ve got you covered.

On this most recent episode of the House of Run, Jason and I discussed the results from the Millrose Games and the USA Cross Country Championship and look ahead to Edward Cheserek’s attempt at breaking 3:50 in the mile this week. Also, we answered listener email about why most JV runners could beat Tom Brady in the mile, try to pin down when we fell in love with running and analyze why Pre called world records, “world’s records.”

Highlights:

2:30 - US women broke the world record at the Millrose Games in the 4 x 800m and Shaunae Miller equalled the world record in the 300m.

10:50 - Strong British performances in the men’s Wanamaker Mile and a Colleen Quigley’s upset in the women’s mile.

13:00 - The stunning performance from Emmanuel Korir in the men’s 800m and the rest of the results from the Millrose Games.

21:00 - What do the performances of Emily Infeld, Leonard Korir, Galen Rupp and Evan Jager at the US Cross Country Championships mean in the context of the broader season.

27:30 - Can Edward Cheserek break 3:50 in the mile?

40:30 - Where would Galen Rupp finish if he raced the top half marathoners in the world? What time would he run?

48:00 - Will the IAAF World Cup spice up the non-championship year?

51:30 - Why most of the JV team could beat Tom Brady in a mile

1:08:00 - World record or World’s record? State Championships or States?

1:11:40 - When we fell in love with running
