    Ethiopia's Deso Gelmisa and Kenya's Rosemary Wanjiru won today's 43rd Tokyo Marathon, prevailing in suspenseful and fast races.  Gelmisa, 25, eked out his victory in a three-man sprint, just edging compatriots Mohamed Esa and Tsegaye Getachew Kebede in 2:05:22.  Wanjiru, 28, won in a classic race of attrition, running solo from 40 kilometers to the finish and breaking the tape in 2:16:28, the second-fastest time ever by a woman in a Japanese marathon.

    Yared Nuguse of the On Athletics Club capped an electric 115th Millrose Games at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory this afternoon with a history-making run in the Rudin Wanamaker Mile, smashing Bernard Lagat's American record by more than two seconds and running the second-fastest time in history: 3:47.38.  He missed Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha's 2019 world indoor record of 3:47.01 by just 37/100ths of a second.

    Only seven men have run sub-3:50 for the mile indoors, and it's only happened once at the Millrose Games when Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha ran 3:48.46 in the 2019 Wanamaker Mile, the #3 mark in history.  But Oliver Hoare and Yared Nuguse of the Boulder-based On Athletics Club, coached by Dathan Ritzenhein, hope to change that at tomorrow's 115th edition of the world's oldest indoor track meet.  Meet director Ray Flynn has asked pacemaker Erik Sowinski to take the field through halfway in an aggressive 1:53.0, hopefully launching the winner to a sub-3:50 time.
