Mar 3, 2022After dominating the marathon for nearly a decade, the list of things Eliud Kipchoge hasn’t done is short. He’s run times few thought were possible, won back-to-back Olympic titles and ushered the marathon into a new era with effortless excellence in a race that befuddles so many.
Chepngetich, Tura Win Warm and Windy Chicago Marathon
Oct 10, 2021On a too-warm and windy morning in Chicago, Kenya's Ruth Chepngetich and Ethiopia's Seifu Tura ran to victory at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, the first in-person edition of an Abbott World Marathon Majors event to be held in the United States in nearly two years. Their winning times of 2:22:31 and 2:06:12 were solid, but not dazzling. Mid-race temperatures of 75F/24C accompanied by sometimes strong winds made fast running difficult. Both winners earned USD 55,000 in prize money.
Jepkosgei, Lemma Take Virgin Money London Marathon Wins
Oct 3, 2021The second-ever fall edition of the Virgin Money London Marathon today ended with victories for Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei and Ethiopia's Sisay Lemma, both first-time winners. Jepkosgei, who won the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon in her debut, controlled her effort carefully before dropping the field with a 4:56 24th mile to win in a personal best 2:17:43. Lemma also made a late-race surge just before 40 kilometers to win going away in 2:04:01.
Women-Only World Record Not Likely for London Marathon, Says Kosgei
Sep 30, 2021Although Brigid Kosgei's marathon personal best of 2:14:04 is nearly three minutes faster than the all-women's world record of 2:17:01, the 27 year-old Kenyan athlete doesn't see that as a goal for Sunday's Virgin Money London Marathon, despite rich financial incentives offered by race organizers. Kosgei, who has won the last two editions of the London Marathon, said that the 57-day turnaround from her Olympic silver medal performance in Tokyo was simply too short to be in world record shape.
Juicy Time Bonuses Could Spur Fast Times At Virgin Money London Marathon
Sep 29, 2021The elite men competing at Sunday's 41st Virgin Money London Marathon will not only be competing for one of the most prestigious titles in all of road running, they will also be running for what will likely be the largest cash payout in all of athletics this year. In addition to customary appearance fees, personal bonuses, and financial incentives offered by kit sponsors, the men's winner of Sunday's race can earn $355,000 in prize money and time bonuses if he breaks Eliud Kipchoge's world record of 2:01:39. Such a performance would mean a total payday of over half a million dollars from all sources.

Can Brigid Kosgei Start A New Win Streak? London Marathon Women's Preview
Sep 23, 2021With few exceptions, Brigid Kosgei has ruled over women’s marathoning for three years. Kosgei won her first major marathon in 2018, breaking 2:20 for the first time during a 2:18:35 triumph in Chicago. The ascent was rapid from there.
