Last week, Donavan Brazier set the bar for American 800m with a 1:44.60 in Arizona. That bar was quickly reset on Saturday afternoon, as Clayton Murphy ran 1:43.60 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Erik Sowinski set the early pace at 51.3 for 400 meters, but once Murphy made his move on the backstretch, the race was over. He destroyed the field in the last 220 meters and finished in 1:43.60, the fastest time ever by an American in the month of April and the third fastest time ever in the world in April.
