Defending Big 12 champion Benard Keter of Texas Tech faced an unfamilar foe in the 2017 men's 3K steeplechase final: Oklahoma State's Josh Thompson, who is better known for his middle-distance prowess as the two-time Big 12 indoor mile champion, but actually did dabble in the steeple during his junior college days.
