Robby Andrews pursues Olympic Dream with adidas
Herzogenaurach, May 2012 - Rising US middle-distance runner Robby Andrews has celebrated his decision to turn professional by signing a long-term deal with adidas.
The 21-year-old University of Virginia student, who is the 2011 NCAA Champion in the 800m with 1:44min, will turn pro in a bid to make the United States Olympic team. He will compete in the 800m and 1,500m in next month’s U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon (June 21 to July 1) having already run 3:34min over 1,500m this season. It is a performance that places him third in the U.S. rankings and makes him a contender for one of the three spots available in the team for London.
Andrews, who was a bronze medalist at the 2010 World Junior Championships, will also compete over 800m at the adidas Grand Prix in New York on June 9 in a field that is expected to include reigning world champion and adidas athlete David Rudisha of Kenya, who also holds the world record for the two-lap event.
Robby Andrews joins the adidas Running Family that already includes Olympic medal hopefuls such as Jessica Ennis, Tyson Gay, Yohan Blake, Sally Pearson and Veronica Campbell-Brown.

The deal comes after Andrews ran a seven second PR in the 1500, running 3:34.78 with a big kick at the 2012 Oxy High Performance Meet on May 18th (race video below, watch interview here). The time currently ranks him #3 in the US, behind Russell Brown and Galen Rupp, and also #27 in the world.
