Lavillenie Wins Gold

Today's men's pole vault final was a day of upsets and comebacks that made Olympic history. France's Renaud Lavillenie jumped an Olympic record height of 5.97 meters to win the gold in his first Olympic Games. The European Champion and 2012 World Indoor Champion had an impressive performance taking down 2008 Olympic Champion, Steve Hooker's previous Olympic record of 5.96.  Hooker had a disappointing day which ended when he failed to score in the final after missing the opening height.  Silver was awarded to Bjorn Otto of Germany who jumped 5.91 and was followed by his German teammate Raphael Holzdeppe for the bronze and a personal best.
