New Balance Nationals Day 2 Recap: McGorty gets his crown, Two down for Frazier
The second day of The New Balance Outdoor National Championship picked up right where the first day left off with some fast performances in the boys' and girls' 100-meter dashes and two-mile runs.
Girl's 100-meter dash: Chandler High School junior Ky Westbrook recently won the Adidas Grand Prix's Dream 100 and built upon that performance by defending her 2012 New Balance Nationals title winning the girl's 100-meter dash in 11.62. She was recently named the Arizona High School Track Athlete of the Year.
Boy's 100-meter dash: Gibbs High School senior Trayvon Bromell (10.41) edged out Fort Bend Ridge Point senior Cameron Burrell (10.44) at the finish line for the victory in the finals. 2.4 was the wind reading for the race.
Boy's Two-Mile: Chantilly High School senior Sean McGorty finally gets his New Balance Outdoor Nationals crown with his win in the two-mile. He took the field out in 62 seconds and would not turn back as he crossed the finish line in 8:45.61 to win. Cibola High School senior Bernie Montoya finished third in 9:00.10.
Girl's Two-Mile: After taking the field out hard in yesterday's 5,000-meter race, West Bloomfield senior Erin Finn was scratched from the start list. Ravenscroft School senior Wesley Frazier would capitalize en route to her second New Balance Nationals victory. 10.07 was the winning time after a tactical battle against St. Ursula Academy sophomore Annie Heffernan, who finished second in 10:14.91 for a personal best.
Major Props: Coronado High School junior Bailey Roth won the boy's 2,000-meter steeplechase in 5:49.24 in just his second barrier race.
