The 2015 Hoosier Open 5K fields did not disappoint tonight in Bloomington, Indiana as Portland's William Kincaid and Northern Arizona's Futsum Zienasellassie both ran 13:44 in the Gladstein Fieldhouse. Kincaid came out with the win, but both men achieved huge indoor personal bests. Kincaid's best indoor time before tonight was 14:17, while Zienasellassie's was 14:52. Neither athlete competed in cross country this fall and appear to be healthy and marching head-on toward the 2016 season.
Fellow Portland Pilot Reid Buchanan, Boise State's David Elliott and NC State transfer Luis Vargas finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, all crossing the line in 13:49 and also recording new PBs. Much like Kincaid and Zienasellassie, the three did not compete this fall. While sub-13:50 is a fine mark on the indoor track, these three will likely be on the bubble come NCAA Championship time in March. The final time qualifier at the indoor finals last spring was 13:48.
In the women's race, North Dakota State All American Erin Teschuk took the victory in 16:01. While the race didn't dip under the 16:00 mark, Teschuk won over teammate Maddie Van Beek, competing unattached, by 19 seconds. Boise State transfer Tansey Lystad finished third in 16:31.
