Less than 48 hours after demolishing the indoor mile World record with her 4:13.31 in Stockholm, Genzebe Dibaba on Friday ran the second-fastest indoor 3k in history.
You read that right.
The 25-year-old’s 8:22.50 World lead in Spain today is second all-time to her own 8:16.60 World record, which is simply inconceivable only two days removed from a 4:13 mile.
As if the world needed another reason to fear the Ethiopian— she owns six World records— today’s run suggests that things like fatigue and recovery are just minor details to be ignored on her path to becoming the most dominant distance runner in World history.
Stay tuned for more fun at next month’s World Indoor Championships in Portland, where um, duh, Dibaba will double in the 1500m and 3,000m. She won the 1500m title in 2012 and is the reigning champ in the 3,000m.
