High school senior Drew Hunter lowered his high school national record by running 3:57.81 in the men's mile at the Millrose Games. The Virginia native finished fourth in a professional and college-level field Saturday at the Armory in New York City.

Hunter became the new high school record-holder in the indoor mile two weeks ago at the Armory Track Invitational when he broke Alan Webb's record by running 3:58.25. He lowered his own national record at the Millrose Games by running 3:57.81.

Former Oregon All American Johnny Gregorek took the overall victory on Saturday by running 3:56.57, followed by Julian Matthews (3:56.91), Tommy Awad (3:57.03), and finally Hunter who closed for fourth and beat out former Colorado All American Jake Hurysz, and Ireland's John Travers.

Hunter made the decision to not run the famously fast Wannamaker Mile on Saturday, which features World medalist Matt Centrowitz and Olympic silver medalist Nick Willis, due to a lingering sickness that began prior to his national record two weeks ago. The decision paid off as Hunter still managed to shave time off of his national record.

The race was paced perfectly for a sub-four minute performance as NJNY's Ford Palmer took the field out in 60 seconds for the first 400m and brought the field into the halfway point at 1:59.4. Hunter remained in the back of the lead pack, in fourth-place position and poised for a fast time. The lead pack rolled into the 1200m mark at 2:59, and Hunter closed with a blazing 56-second final 400m to claim fourth overall.
