The agent for former 1500m World champion Abeba Aregawi announced on Wednesday that his athlete’s “B” sample test has been confirmed positive for meldonium, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.

The news of Aregawi’s initial positive test broke last week, with the Swedish Athletics Federation moving quickly to suspend the 25-year-old.

The Ethiopian-born distance runner tested positive in January for the heart drug, which was officially banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency at the turn of the new year. Aregawi, who gained Swedish citizenship back in 2012, claims that she thought she was taking a vitamin supplement.

Aregawi beat out Jenny Simpson in the 1500m at the 2013 World Championships, taking gold there as well as the following year the 2014 World Indoor Championships.

News of Aregawi’s doping bust was coupled with a controversy regarding tax evasion, as well as questions on the legitimacy of her Swedish citizenship. When confronted by a tax investigation, Aregawi revealed that she never lived in Sweden and thus did not feel obligated to pay taxes.
