Shaquille Walker of BYU won the Sun Angel Classic 800m in 1:44.99 tonight, just outside the top 10 list of NCAA all-time (in season) performances.

The pace was hot as Sean Adams took the field through 50 seconds in the opening 400m. Walker maintained the lead with Minnesota's Goaner Deng close on his heels. Walker overcame Deng with a lethal kick to win in 1:44.99. Deng, a senior, finished second in a new personal best 1:46.81.

SUN ANGEL CLASSIC RESULTS

The time marks the first collegiate regular season sub-1:45 since Charles Jock ran 1:44.75 at the Big West Championship in 2012. Two-time NCAA 800m Champion Edward Kemboi and 2016 NCAA Indoor 800m Champion Clayton Murphy of Akron shared their congratulatory remarks to Walker afterwards.

Walker opened up his outdoor season last weekend at the Stanford Invitational with a 46.67 victory in the 400m. Watch the race below!
