Trayvon Bromell Out Until The Trials With Achilles Injury
Here's an explanation for Trayvon Bromell's bizarre performance in the Rome 200m two weeks ago: he's injured. Bromell tweeted after that race that he forgot his asthma pump, but a report from the Tampa Bay Times today reveals that Bromell suffered a grade 1 Achilles tendon sprain. The report says that the injury happened before the Rome Diamond League meet, but it incorrectly states that Bromell scratched from the race in Rome. Either way, it explains why Bromell withdrew from DL meets in Oslo and Birmingham.

Per the Times, Bromell won't race again until the Olympic Trials. The first round of the 100m begins July 2. Though Bromell "broke both his knees, fractured a forearm and cracked a hip" in high school, this is his first major injury as a collegian or professional.

It seems possible that Bromell was the subject of a cryptic subtweet from Ato Boldon yesterday, though Bromell has disputed the severity of the injury, both on social media and in the report. When asked about the Olympic Trials, he told the Times "I'll be there."
