Check out the Saucony Flo50 XC Countdown, where FloTrack ranks the top 31 cross country teams in the NCAA this season. The No. 30 spot goes to Florida this year, and here's why:
SO Elisabeth Bergh (4:22 1500; 16:57 5K; 21st at '15 SEC XC)
JR Rebekah Greene (4:17 1500; 9:18 3K)
SO Noora Wallneus (16:32 5K)
FR Hope Saunders (9:42 3K; 3x Irish Jr. National XC Champ)
Impact Freshman/Transfers:
Noora Wallneus via Arkansas-Little Rock (16:32 5K)
Hope Saunders via Ireland (9:42 3K; 3x Irish Jr. National XC Champ)
Jessica Pascoe via Australia (9:29 3K; 16:53 5K)
Hannah Brookover via Palm Harbor, FL (10:41 3200; '15 Florida State XC Champ)
Analysis:
A much-improved Taylor Tubbs looks to lead Florida's women to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2012. Tubbs shaved 20 seconds off her best 5K last spring, and punched her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a seventh-place showing at the NCAA East prelims. Though she was one of three women who dropped out of the NCAA 5K, Tubbs led the Gators in three events (800m, 1500m and 5K) last spring and will take that leadership mentality into the fall.
Sophomore Elisabeth Bergh and junior Rebekah Greene should follow Tubbs on the grass, along with transfer Noora Wallneus and Irish newcomer Hope Saunders. Bergh had a solid first year for the Gators and earned SEC All-Freshman honors. Greene has the right PBs to get the job done, but hasn't hit those marks (2:05 800m, 4:17 1500m) since 2014. If healthy, Greene could be an outstanding sidekick for Tubbs.
