ON THE RISE: Allie Ostrander


Released circa November 2014

Allie Ostrander emerged as a distance-running prodigy on the remote Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. A three-time state cross country champion and 10:03 two-miler on the track as a high schooler, Ostrander's rise from prep phenom to U.S. Olympic Trials competitor has intrigued a nation. In this 2014 film, we followed Ostrander as she trained in the harsh Alaskan climate and terrain prior to her first cross country national championship meet, Nike Cross Nationals, in Portland, Oregon.

Two years ago, we followed the No. 1-ranked Colorado Buffaloes as they prepared to defend their NCAA cross country title. 2014's team was touted as the best Colorado squad ever, which was quite the statement considering the long history of success Coach Mark Wetmore has enjoyed: six national titles in 20 years; four on the men's side, and two on the women's. Now, an aura surrounds the man who has led so many teams to the promised land. As we followed the Colorado men in their build-up to a title defense, we sought to define the Wetmore factor and witness it in action.
