Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay will test his speed over a different kind of surface on Wednesday at the USA Bobsled National Push Championships in Calgary, Canada.

The three-time world champion is contending to make the United States national team in bobsled, despite only pushing a sled for a handful of days, according to Team USA. The push championships are mandatory for any athlete who wishes to compete on the national team during the 2016-2017 season.

Gay, who competed on the Team USA 4x100m team that was disqualified in Rio, will be joined by fellow Olympic sprinters Ryan Bailey and Lolo Jones.

Bailey, who is a member of the Olympic men's 4x100m that set an American record in 2012, earned a victory in the men's preliminary competition to earn a qualification to compete at the national meet. Jones, already an experienced bobsledder in her own right, earned an 11th-place finish at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
