No, Centro Wasn't On That Ride That Tragically Derailed In Australia
This is obviously unimportant on the scale of what happened in Australia yesterday when a malfunctioning theme park ride killed four people. But--going off a tweet--lots of news outlets reported that Matt Centrowitz was on the ride minutes before it derailed, calling it a "close escape" and saying that the 1500m Olympic gold medalist "narrowly missed."

According to Centrowitz's agent, Ricky Simms, this is not true. Simms says that Centrowitz got off a ride in the same area as the one that malfunctioned, then all the rides in the area were shut down; Centrowitz tweeted before he knew the details of what happened and the death toll of the accident.

Again--as a small detail in a news story about four people getting killed, this is not important. But the difference between Centrowitz being on the ride that derailed and being on a nearby one is like the difference between getting out of a car 15 minutes before it exploded and being on the highway a mile behind an accident.
